Looking for an Easy to Care for Class Pet? Try Robots!

Robots make great pets!

We love using robots in our 1st grade classroom.  I started integrating robots into the classroom in 2015 and haven’t looked back.  Currently we use Blue Bots and Wonder Workshop’s Dot and Dash robots in order to enhance our 21st century learning (more on that topic later).

When they’re not in use however, storing them can be tricky.  Having robots sitting idly on the counter isn’t necessary the ideal situation for a 1st grade classroom (am I right?!), but I always hated locking these little cuties up in a cabinet.

My solution:  make our robots class pets!  I had this old fish tank in a cabinet, and since we can’t have real class pets this seemed like the perfect idea.

I’ve been doing this for 3 years now and the kids love it. They get a kick out of taking care of our pets- they read to them, take them for walks, and even feed them fresh bowls of Legos and unifix cubes. AND there’s no stinky mess to clean up #winning!

If you have robots in your classroom I highly suggest this fun and whimsical twist on the traditional class pet!
